Back to the Grind!!

It was really nice to go home for a few days to see my wife and family and try to find some downtime within the several gatherings we had over the Holidays. I was even lucky enough to witness one of the first few snowfalls in Montreal this year as it has been quite mild there.

After a quick 6-day stay in Montreal, I am back in Europe for some training in Austria before Thursday’s World Cup in Zagreb, Croatia.

I am quite happy with my skiing right now. I am feeling good and looking forward to the next race!!

Difficult Beginning of the Season…

After several months of not blogging I am back!! I had a very busy summer of training and getting my body back to what it was before my last shoulder injury. I am now in great shape and happy we are finally able to start racing after our summer break. We had a good summer camp in New Zealand in August and I was pumped to hit the racing circuit for the 2011-2012 season.

The beginning of this season was slow due to weather conditions. To begin, our first World Cup in Levi, Finland was cancelled due to lack or should I say NO snow. The race was postponed until this Wednesday in Flachau, Austria. Then, the Val d’Isère World Cup in France was also cancelled and rescheduled to Beaver Creek, Colorado, on December 8th. I was excited to race but did not feel quite 100%, as I was not feeling well in the few days leading up to the race as I was having problems staying hydrated and adjusting to the high altitude in Colorado. I was 15th after the first run and finished 17th overall. I made some mistakes in both runs costing me a Top 10 finish.

We then moved on to Europe where I had a few days of solid skiing before this morning’s 2nd World Cup Alta Badia, Italy. I had a decent run but made a huge mistake on the last flat costing me the 2nd run qualification. I was quite disappointed as I am currently not skiing in races as well as I have been in training. I will regroup and aim for a good training tomorrow before we head out to Flachau for the 3rd race of the season on Wednesday.

Let’s throw down a good one before I head home for the Holidays!!

5th in Val d’Isère-What a course!!

I had a good solid week of training in slalom so I was feeling good and the hill looked like it was in great shape. What a race this morning!Steep and very tight gates made it a very difficult course but I was up for the challenge. I finished 5th after the first run and knew I would have to “bring it” in the second run! The course was rough by the time it was my turn to ski but my goal was to get to the bottom with a solid result. When I crossed the finish line I knew I had accomplished my goal! This is the second best result in my career (I had also finished 5th in Schladming last January) so I was thrilled. The podium is now in sight and I just have to keep moving in that direction.We have a few days of training now before the Holidays. I’m looking forward to some downtime to rest before the month of January which has many World Cup slalom races. I would like to thank all of you for the support and all your messages, it is greatly appreciated. Until next time!!

What an exciting start to my season!! I came into this race with the goal of putting 2 strong runs together. I found my balance and was 10th after the first run, which was followed by a solid second run. I was first when I got to the bottom so I knew I had accomplished my goal for this run. I ended up finishing 8th overall. This is a good base to start my season and I will work on maintaining consistent results in the top 10. Congrats to Jean-Baptiste Grange the winner of the event. That was quite the return to snow! Well done buddy!

It was a good day for the team with Brad Spence finishing 16th,Trevor White 19th and Pat Biggs 22nd.

I am now getting on a plane and travelling back to Canada for some training in Nakiska. Looking forward to getting out there and preparing for my next race.

I was so psyched when I got to the bottom of the hill last night!!! Perfect icy conditions just the way I like it!!!!!!!!! I was able to let my skies go and and finished 5th!!!!! Mike also had an awesome second run and finished 12 th!! Way to go buddy!!! AAAHOOOOUUUU!
